Nat Davis made his first impression on the Charleston
business community in 1969 when, as a graduating
senior at the Citadel, he received a cash award
for his creativity from the News and Courier.
Nat had an insider's view of Charleston, learning
the city from the inside out while working in
television, radio and creative management under
the late John M. Rivers. From 1970 to 1973, Nat
held the positions of studio manager, news cameraman
and personnel manager at WCSC-TV. His ability
and talents drew the attention of G. Richard
Shafto, the Chairman of the Board of Cosmos Broadcasting.
He offered Nat the challenge of starting South
Carolina's first cable television station in
Myrtle Beach. Mr. Shafto is well known in South
Carolina for his management of WIS-TV in Columbia
and for serving on the board of NBC television.
Nat moved to the advertising business in 1974
when he opened and ran the first coastal office
for the Columbia-based public relations firm
of W. Leroy Harrelson and Associates. He was
responsible for all public relations, functions
and promotions for a variety of accounts. To
gain more experience, he worked at a variety
of larger advertising agencies before starting
his own firm in 1980. Among the national awards
bestowed to the agency over the years, include
one of the top industry honors; Silver Medal
Award for Lifetime Achievement by the American
Advertising Federation. Nat was also named Citadel
Man of the year for PR work he does for the Military
College. |
