TO ALL JOB SEEKERS Dear Applicant: Thank you for contacting Davis Advertising. Any information sent to us will be kept in confidence and will be reviewed by the appropriate departments. All of us at Davis Advertising make a concerted effort to respond back to every person seeking employment. As you might imagine it is extremely difficult to follow up on every resume and job request. All of us in the agency business have been where you are now. We know that it can sometimes get frustrating. But keep pressing the effort. Do not give up.
SOME SEASONED SUGGESTIONS Some suggestions that I have found true over the years may be of benefit to you. 1. Don’t get discouraged because it is very rare that a young person goes right to work for an ad agency. 2. During your hunt for the perfect job in advertising, build your experience in other related fields like radio, TV, newspaper, printing, ad sales, graphics etc and learn all the basics about the business. 3. The ad agency side is an apprentice-type business. There are so many things you will never learn in school. Some reasons include: the ever-changing technologies, the trends that stay in flux, and the new ways communications are changing every time you turn around. 4. Gain valuable insight in related communication fields no matter how trivial and then use that experience to approach ad agencies down the line. 5. Location. Go where the work is. Don’t stay in a place just because you like it. Gain the experience first – then select where you want to live. Everyone loves Charleston, but this is a very tight and competitive market. I hope this helps you in your search and your career. The reason I feel strongly about this type of suggestion is because all the agency people I know and respect started this way, including myself. Thank you for considering Davis Advertising. Stay in touch. You’d be surprised at how powerful persistence can be. Regards, Davis Advertising, Inc. |
